If you aren’t up to speed on the metaverse, you may be falling behind. Because as it stands, it appears the world is moving forward with a brand new reality, well, virtual reality. This is none more apparent than the example of an Indian couple choosing to marry on the metaverse.
COVID-19 continues to run rampant across India. The situation has created obstacles for Dinesh Sivakumar Padmavathi and Janaganandhini Ramaswamy, who far more than the restricted 100 guests to attend their wedding. Instead, the couple has invited 2,000 folks. But yeah, legally, those 2,000 people need to attend the metaverse wedding version.
It helps that Dinesh is fond of crypto and blockchain capacity. In fact, he’s helped create a Harry Potter style metaverse for a metaverse company. Wow, that’s a lot of metaverse, huh?
“Because of the pandemic, a physical, real kind of reception is not possible with the huge number of people attending,” Dinesh told CNN.
If this all seems weird, that’s because it is weird. The Padmavathi and Ramaswamy uniting, filled with all it’s guests, will play out using 3D redentions in a marriage style metaverse. Yes, this means old aunt Edna will be chain smoking with you on the patio and you’ll both be cartoon versions of yourselves. Its creepy. But it’s happening.
The couple plans to carry out their vows in the physical world with some close relatives, but all the rest of the ceremony will be a Zuckerberg wet dream.
Oh, and just because the wedding is taking place on the metaverse doesn’t mean it won’t cost anything. I’m sure the el cheapos were salivating at the concept of a freebie wedding. But no, this metaverse wedding is estimated to cost over $2,000. That’s not a bad price considering how much a real wedding can cost. And lets be honest, there are some benefits here. You can vanish on a whim when the family drama is too much. You won’t burn any gas or drive time. You won’t need to purchase cocktail attire. And your 3D avatar is sure to be a better looking version of yourself.
But it is still weird. That said, metaverse porn is coming, so who is anyone to talk? At some point, we’ll all need to accept things. And let’s be honest, the metaverse bachelor and bachelorette parties might be a ripe time to test such sultry waters.
