It’s been a long, arduous saga for Russian OnlyFans content creators. In February, OnlyFans ceased paying out Russian creators but shortly after, reinstituted the payments.
But now, things are getting hot and heavy again and OnlyFans is suspending payments again. This time, Only Fans calls it a “temporary pause.” How “temporary” the pause is isn’t clear.
OnlyFans reasoning, which is logical, is that they can “no longer property serve our Russian creator community” – This is due to current sanctions which make processing credit cards a difficult situation, according to Motherboard.
“Over the past few months we have explored several options to continue providing our services to creators impacted by the Russia / Ukraine war.” The company said in a statement.
“However due to a further tightening of payment restrictions to and from Russia, OnlyFans can no longer properly serve our Russian creator community.”
When you can’t process transactions, you can’t pay out content creators; it is that simple.
OnlyFans disseminated the information to Russian content creators last week. The message didn’t go over well, as you can imagine. Many Russian citizens do not agree with the war in Ukraine. But no matter their political persuasions, they’ll now suffer the consequence of their government’s invasion.
Fair or unfair, it’s what is happening. And the consequences of this new ban certainly won’t help Russian people who relied on revenue from creating content.
Many mainstream companies, including Google, TikTok, and PayPal, have instituted similar restrictions in Russia. And given the current status of the war in Ukraine, it doesn’t appear that relief for the people of Russia is anywhere near.
